Orientation Weekend for AYE 2010

Last weekend, 12-14 of March 2010, myself, Lily from Ballyboden and Niall from Drogheda participated in an orientation weekend for volunteers who are going to assist in the running of AYE 2010.

The meeting was held on the site of the festival - the SPEC centre - a very large site comprising about 40 acres.  This is the Pastoral Centre for Westminster diocese which is the diocese of London.  The centre itself is located near St. Albans which is a small town to the north of London.

During this weekend we got to meet approximately 40 volunteers from all over England and Scotland who will be involved in helping us to get the most out of the festival in August.

It was a very good opportunity to get to know the site which is extensive.  It also helped us to get to grips with teh different buildings on the site and the possibilities of each one.  There are, in fact, four principal buildings - the Pastoral Centre which caters for all sorts of groups from around the diocese and also hosts many courses and workshops; the SPEC (Speculum Vitae = Mirror of Life) centre which is dedicated to youth ministry and hosts mainly groups of young people; the Loft which comprises sleeping accomodation and also a large meeting area / sacred space; and Chantry Lodge which is basically an accomodation block but also has facilities for small groups to meet.  AYE 2010, due to the large number of participants, will actually use all of the buildings.

On this site you can look at a gallery of photos of the meeting - this gallery is the one currently showing (17th March) on the home page of the site.
