Reflection on AYE Meeting

A Visit to the Spec centre

Last weekend i accompanied Noel and Lilly on an excursion to the Spec centre, the site of the upcoming A.Y.E meeting. I was nervous. I had never met any of the 40 or so volunteers who would also be in attendance and i didn't know what to expect. My nervousness was quickly eradicated however, as each and every one of the volunteers turned out to be some of the most welcoming and friendly bunch i've ever encountered. The weekend itself comprised of some ice breaker activities on the saturday followed quickly by some debate on current affairs and pressing issues. After that we prepared for evening prayer and then had time to socialise amoungst ourselves. The group itself hailed from all walks of life yet no one was made to feel unwelcome. A night of festivities rounded off a most enjoyable saturday. On the Sunday a group of us went for a walk around the surrounding grounds. It was a gorgeous sunny day and the walk was enjoyed by everyone. Noel, Lilly and I had to leave straight after mass on the Sunday as we wanted to see some of the sights in London. The farewell we were given was quite touching considering I had only met some of these people for the first time 2 days previously but if anything it is indicative of the calibre of young Augustinians that are out there. If this weekend alone was anything to go by than the A.Y.E encounter in August is going to be something very special indeed. I for one can't wait.
