Meeting of the Provincials of Northern Europe

From Saturday the 27th of April until Wednesday the 1st of May the Provincials of the Augustinian Provinces of Northern Europe are meeting in Cracow, Poland.  This meeting is a forum in which those gathered discuss the possibilities for cooperation between their provinces.

The Provinces of Ireland, England, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Poland are gathered for this meeting which seeks to identify and implement new ways in which the Order can continue to proclaim the kingdom of God in this region which has seen such a dramatic decline in both religious practice and in the number of people responding to vocations to the religious life.

This meeting is a practical example of how, just as no individual house of the Order is an entirely independent entity but belongs to and is responsible to and for the Province to which it belongs, so no Province can allow itself to become absorbed purely by its own concerns.  The cooperation between provinces is one way in which the Augustinians can best use our resources at an international level as well as being able to assist our brothers in other countries in various ways.

Fr. David Middleton of the Anglo-Scottish Province has been the President of this meeting for the last number of years.  As he goes out of office as Provincial, David will step down from this role.  We acknowledge his significant contribution to the efforts being made and wish him well in the future.

Please keep the Provincials in your prayers during their gathering.
