Pope Francis to Preside at Opening Mass of General Chapter

It has been confirmed that His Holiness, Pope Francis, will preside at the opening mass of the General Chapter to be held in Rome, beginning on the 28th of August, feast day of St. Augustine.
As the Capitulars gather to celebrate this important event in the life of the Order they gather around the table of the Eucharist to invoke God's blessing on their deliberations.  This time the Pope will gather with them to pray so that the Order's commitment to the church throughout the world may be the best possible.
The mass will be celebrated in the church of Sant' Agostino in Rome.  This church, close to Rome's Piazza Navona was for many centuries the general house of the Order.  It is also the place where the remains of St. Monica, the mother of Augustine, are preserved and venerated.
By holding the opening Eucharist in this setting the gathered friars have a very visible link with the history and growth of the Order.
Please keep all those involved in the preparations for the Chapter in your prayers.
