Interesting Information about the Our Father which may be useful

The Lord's Prayer, like so many more of the precepts and discourses ascribed to Jesus, is borrowed. Dr. Hardwicke, of England, says: "The so-called 'Lord's Prayer' was learned by Jesus as the 'Kadish' from the Talmud.” The Kadish, as translated by Christian scholar, Rev. John Gregorie, is as follows: "Our Parent which art in heaven, be gracious to us, O Lord, our God; hallowed be ....   Read More

Father's Day - Sunday 20th of June 2010

Fathers’ Day Certain people are important in our lives for very many reasons. Our parents are at the top of that list. Parents are the first to take care of us, the first to educate us and the first to forgive us when we do something wrong. This weekend we are reminded to appreciate our fathers.  I know when I was a child we would always give my Da socks or hankies. ....   Read More

Feast of the Mother of Good Counsel, Patroness of the Irish Province of Augustinians

Our Lady of Good Counsel (Latin: Mater boni consilii) is a title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary, after an allegedly miraculous painting now found in the thirteenth century Augustinian church at Genazzano, near Rome, Italy. Measuring 40 by 45 centimeters the image is a fresco executed on a thin layer of porcelain no thicker than an egg shell. Over the centuries, devotions to Our Lady ....   Read More

Organ Donor Week - 27 March - 3 April 2010

This is organ donor awareness week.  Many people die each year in Ireland because they are unable to have a transplant.  Many people also die tragically due to road accidents and illness.  The organs of those who die can save the lives of those who would otherwise die. Nobody has the right to demand that you donate your organs but this week invites us to think about it and consider ....   Read More

Suggestion for a Service for Good Friday

Some years ago I participated in the celebration of Tenebrae (Latin for shadows) in our church in Galway.  This was a common service for Good Friday before the Second Vatican Council.  This is a reflection on the Passion of the Lord which is combined with a very emotive symbolic movement into darkness.  It can be a beautiful way to celebrate Good Friday. The service is reproduced o ....   Read More
