Review of Movie "Hurt Locker" by John, Galway

I recently watched The Hurt Locker on dvd as I missed it in the cinema.  Its been talked off as a serious contender for best picture at this years oscar's.  Ironically its directed by Kathryn Bigalow, who happens to be an ex wife of James Cameron, director of Avatar.

As a fan of war movies I was really excited about seeing it.  When I read quotes like "the best war movie in years", my excitement was at fever pitch.  However I was in for a bit of a let down.

It tells the story of a group of elite soldiers in Baghdad, who defuse bombs and the casual approach to the job by the team leader.  While there are some decent action scenes, it is nothing compared to the likes of Saving Private Ryan or Platoon.  It is however filled with scenes of incredible tension whick make for good viewing.  Its just not the film it claims to be.

In summary, I was disapointed with it and cant see it winning the Oscar for best picture.  I would give it a rating of 2 out of 5.
